The Urgency of Working on Historical Memory in Schools
How is it possible that the tragedy experienced by Peruvians has not been processed? Why have we not learned that intolerance, hatred, discrimination, and racism lead to destruction and death? When did we forget to defend truth, justice, and peace as supreme values of a State that seeks development and the integral growth of its members? With these and other similar questions, it becomes necessary to challenge the national conscience, to cure it of amnesia, and to turn to memory and critical review of the tragedy experienced — without which we risk repeating it. These issues and the role of the school in this need for critical memory are reflected upon here in dialogue with Rosa María Mujica.
