The Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Peru and a Gender Perspective: Main Achievements and Findings
The CVR's findings are striking, and the nine voluminous volumes of the report document the development of the violence process, the actors in the conflict, the crimes and human rights violations, as well as the aftermath of the violence. Likewise, a series of recommendations aimed at the ultimate goal of reconciliation was included. In addition to these important findings and contributions, the CVR Report marked a significant milestone by incorporating an analysis of the differentiated impact of violence based on gender, as well as including a specific chapter on sexual violence against women. In this way, and unlike previous experiences, the CVR became the first truth commission in the world to incorporate a gender perspective from the outset of its work, thereby setting a significant precedent for the establishment and work of future bodies of this type.
