Reparation and Justice in the Country

The Defensoría del Pueblo has persevered in keeping on the National agenda various obligations to which the State must provide an effective response. One of these is addressing the consequences arising from the forced disappearance of persons during the period of violence from 1980 to 2000. Taking into account the complexity surrounding the process of truth and justice within which investigations into forced disappearances are framed, and its implications for the lives of the families of these victims, in Defensoría Reports No. 112 "El difícil camino de la reconciliación. Justicia y Reparación para las víctimas de la violencia" and No. 139 "A cinco años de los procesos de reparación y justicia en el Perú," published in 2008 and 2009 respectively, the Defensoría del Pueblo recommended that the Public Prosecutor's Office promote an inter-institutional coordination space for the development of a National Plan of Forensic Anthropological Investigations that includes humanitarian exhumations.
