Ombudsman Report No. 111: Oversight of Family Planning Services V Cases Investigated by the Ombudsman's Office
Since June 1997, the year in which the Defensoría del Pueblo recorded the first complaint regarding the case of a woman sterilized without her consent, the defense and promotion of reproductive rights have become a priority focus of the institution's work. In November 1999, the ombudsman's system for supervising respect for and protection of reproductive rights was implemented. Within this framework, supervisory visits are carried out to various health facilities and complaints are recorded concerning various cases of violation of the reproductive rights of users of family planning services.
