DEBATE OVER THE PERUVIAN CVR'S FIGURES ON THE INTERNET (VOLUME II)
The various aspects of the Final Report (FR) of the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR), and in particular its figures on the number of fatal victims, were intensely debated on the internet. These have been the most important debates conducted through this medium to date in Peru. However, these debates are scattered across various web pages, with mailing lists that are disappearing and links that are becoming outdated. With no centralized space, the debates end up buried in a sea of information, and the same arguments already made by others are revisited with little accumulation of knowledge. Through this work I would like to offer the reader material that illustrates the various arguments made about the CVR's figures. In the 1990s, several Peruvian internet lists emerged that hosted interesting debates on current national affairs, such as the "Perú" list and the "Tumi" list. However, the debate over the CVR's FR was far more intense, lasted longer, took place simultaneously across various email lists, and was marked by great passion and argumentative effort from several participants.
