Things: Metonymy and Memory in the Commemoration of Social Traumas
Drawing on some recent discoveries about the functioning of episodic memory, this essay reflects on the ways in which the contemplation of certain objects can function as a stimulus for memory, but also as a stimulus for sensations analogous to those we experience when we remember. Thus, cultural interventions such as that of photographer Domingo Giribaldi in his exhibition "Si no vuelvo, búsquenme en Putis" contribute to an awareness by civil society of the collective trauma suffered by the Peruvian nation.
