Reparations for Violence Victims Finally Arrive
Peru will begin delivering individual economic reparations to victims of political violence (1980-2000), with priority given to the elderly living in the most remote villages. The government already has four budget proposals in hand to open the process. "It is a pending issue that must begin to be addressed. There has been a very long wait," Jesús Aliaga, executive secretary of the Comisión Multisectorial de Alto Nivel (CMAN) responsible for monitoring State actions and policies on reparations, told IPS in an interview.
