Retired General on the Plot in the Army and the La Cantuta Investigation

A senior retired general said that the clandestine group COMACA, organized within the Army, is growing. He has heard threats from COMACA officers to assassinate Army commander Hermoza and Montesinos if they do not resign. He said that the Army officer corps could accept a full congressional investigation into La Cantuta, contradicting the Peruvian government's statements that such an action would pit the Army against Congress. Army tradition demands that Hermoza accept responsibility rather than hiding or blaming others. He requests that the U.S. government increase pressure as the only way to prevent Fujimori from becoming more dictatorial.
