Reaction from Within the Army to the Dismissal of Generals Jarama and Mori
On September 17, 1985, President García dismissed Generals Jarama and Mori after the Senate Human Rights Commission found that an Army patrol under their orders was responsible for the Accomarca massacre. To a large extent, the Army's attention is now directed inward, focused on the institutional response to the human rights situation in which it finds itself. However, the Army is also concerned about the possibility that the García administration may initiate or allow a "witch hunt" against Army human rights violators, or against their chains of command during past years.
