Unearthing the Truth
The country that emerges from a calm reading of the CVR report is striking. The country as a whole, in fact — not just the period the commission was tasked with analyzing. The gravity of what was lived through in recent times necessarily led it further and deeper. Otherwise, it would have been limited to only part of the truth; it was obligatory to do so — but intellectual honesty and civic courage were required — to go to the roots of the matter. To seek the truth underground, buried beneath guilty amnesias, lies turned into common currency, and disillusioned indifference.
