Ombudsman's Office Statement Regarding Legislative Decree 1097

In response to the publication of Legislative Decree 1097, which regulates the application of procedural rules for crimes involving human rights violations, the Defensoría del Pueblo makes public its statement reiterating its institutional position that serious crimes against human rights are not subject to statutes of limitations, and therefore the Peruvian State has the unavoidable duty to investigate and prosecute such acts with all guarantees of due process.
