The Writer Insists on the Innocence of the Military
Judge Hermenegildo Ventura Huayhua will cause a national scandal in Peru in the coming days when he charges, as he himself has announced, the armed forces with the murder of eight journalists in the village of Uchuraccay in January 1983. Ventura Huaylma also plans to prosecute the writer Mario Vargas Llosa, president of the commission that investigated the case, for covering up the crime, as well as the then commander of the political-military command of Ayacucho, General Clemente Noel, several ministers and former ministers, and some journalists who, according to the judge, lied when giving testimony.
