Trial of the Years of Lead in Latin America
Latin America seeks to settle accounts with its darkest past. Over the last two years an unprecedented process has taken place in which, simultaneously, several countries in the region have devoted themselves to the pursuit of truth and justice regarding crimes committed during the years of lead. To varying degrees, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil are working to clarify the human rights violations committed by the dictatorships of the 1970s and 1980s, while Peru has uncovered the crimes that occurred in the fight against guerrillas in the 1980s and 1990s.
