The Creation of the Truth Commission in Peru
The Truth Commission recently created in Peru by Executive Decree No. 065-2001-PCM will be, in its kind, the 22nd worldwide. In the Latin American sphere, the four most important Truth Commissions in terms of their work and the recognition achieved both within their respective countries and internationally are: Argentina (1983-1984), Chile (1990-1991), El Salvador (1992-1993), and Guatemala (1997-1999). According to various authors, these four experiences, together with that of South Africa (1995-1998-2000), are the most outstanding worldwide.
