Memory and Justice in Peruvian Public Opinion

Before the uncertain period of transition and consolidation of democracy that we have been living in Peru began, a discussion developed in the press among various opinion leaders about the acts of violence that occurred between 1980 and 2000, and about the actions the State should take to address the demands for justice of the victims of violence. Little is known, however, about how public opinion reacted to these issues. In this text we aim to account for this by analyzing the data collected in the national survey on perceptions of memory and reconciliation that the Institute of Democracy and Human Rights of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (IDEHPUCP) commissioned from IMASEN in December 2006.
