Truth Commissions in Latin America

Most Latin American societies experienced, over the last four decades, ongoing situations of violence and internal conflict, due to serious conditions of injustice and economic and social inequality. Faced with this, the fragile Latin American democracies ceded power to military elites with a messianic vocation. With the return of civilians to state leadership, the crucial debate arises about what to do with those responsible for human rights violations and violations of humanitarian law.
