BETWEEN MEMORY AND UTOPIA

Memory is an exercise in constructing a representation and an imaginary, in a collective and creative manner. To build a representation, memory refers human beings to the densest and most vital experiences of their process, and to construct an imaginary, it causes people to project what they consider most valuable and what must be preserved as part of humanity. The Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR) in Peru has made the necessary effort both to gather the fragments of scattered experiences and to create a "memory" of painful events that occurred during 20 years of political violence, as well as to launch a challenge to Peruvians to construct a "utopia" and travel the path of building a democratic society, without repeating what has happened.
