PHILIPPIC 8. THE SOCIAL CLASS WITH AN APPETITE
Just as the United States is an example of a "country with fear," China is that of a "country with appetite," as we saw in Philippic 5. Adapting the classification of countries to a society, we find that the "Class with Appetite" is that whose members do everything possible to attain the goods and privileges enjoyed by the class they aspire to: the "Class with Fear." It is true that all social classes have appetite, but this feeling is not always predominant or a determining factor in their conduct and way of thinking. Unless it is voracious, having an appetite is not enough to belong to the "Class with Appetite."
