A BAD OMEN: NAME CHANGE OF THE MUSEUM OF MEMORY
Mario Vargas Llosa has announced that the "Museo de la Memoria" will be called "Lugar de la Memoria." Is this change a whim of the literary figure, or is it truly necessary to replace the word Museo with another that better reflects the purpose of its content? Could it perhaps be a political concession to the most outdated right wing of the country, who see the museum as a challenge to the "establishment" that protects their anachronistic status? Let's speak plainly: is it so important to change a name that everyone understands in order to replace it with lugar (place)? (My, I did not intend to play with words.)
