RECONCILIATION...? BETWEEN WHOM?
It is evident that there were three protagonists. First, the terrorists who initiated the genocide. Second, the State, which failed to control or punish the actions of certain members of the Armed Forces who caused massacres. The third protagonist was the innocent people, whose members were murdered, kidnapped, tortured, raped, or forced to leave their homes. Although it may seem obvious, reconciliation is: 1- Terrorists vs. State: impossible reconciliation. The State has a duty to prosecute and convict the terrorists. They show no remorse. 2- Terrorists vs. People: impossible reconciliation. The terrorists have shown no remorse. Furthermore, they threaten to return to their criminal ways. 3- State vs. People: this is a possible, necessary, and indispensable reconciliation. So far this rapprochement has not been possible due to the inability of politicians to understand that the main issue is not granting economic reparations that are always insufficient, delayed, and far from covering all victims.
