Alan García Allegedly Ordered the Covering Up of Traces of the Cayara Massacre
On May 14, 1988, a group of soldiers under the command of General Luis Valdivia Dueñas savagely murdered peasants from the province of Cayara, in Ayacucho, in retaliation for an ambush they suffered at the hands of terrorists. The then-prosecutor Carlos Escobar took charge of the investigation and now recounts how, from the Army, Congress, and the Public Ministry, the investigation was blocked, and reveals how an eyewitness account directly implicates President Alan García Pérez in the concealment of evidence.
