García Owes Peru More Disappeared Than the Bloodthirsty Fujimori

Now that Peru is preparing to close its wounds by confronting the past through a Truth Commission, it is necessary to remember the entire history — complete and without censorship. We need to remember, for example, that during the five years of Alan García's government, far more people disappeared than during the entire last decade. As incredible as it may seem, the Fujimorist regime — as dictatorial as we remember it — did not shed as much blood as that of Alan García Pérez, in half the time.
