Lori's Father Speaks

Mark Berenson has been a statistics professor for 26 years. Months after the birth of his second daughter, Laurie, and during the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Berenson was assigned to the statistics department at a military base in Virginia. Two years later, the whole family returned to New York and settled in an apartment in Manhattan. He and his wife Rhoda, a physics teacher, returned to their teaching posts. Their two daughters attended public school. They had always dreamed of visiting Peru, but never imagined they would be compelled to do so under such circumstances. Published December 14, 1995.
