As if the infamous amnesty law were not enough, the CCD insisted with another law, passed last Wednesday, in its attempt to prevent the Poder Judicial from ruling independently on the first. Just like the "Cantuta Law" of February 1994, which interrupted a case that had already been initiated, the "Barrios Altos Law" seeks to block the ruling of the 11th Chamber of the Corte Superior, which was due next week, ratifying — or overturning — the ruling of Judge Antonia Saquicuray that the trial of those responsible for the Barrios Altos massacre should continue.
