To Live, Finally, in Peace

Five years after the delivery of the CVR's Final Report, the situation of those affected by the violence is gradually changing. They themselves maintain that they have ceased to be victims and are now fighting, from their position as citizens, for their rights. There is, however, one pending matter: that of reparations. Only in this way will the wounds of hundreds of thousands of Peruvian men and women be closed. According to Rosa Villarán, executive secretary of the movement "Para que no se repita," the process of regional coordination among human rights organizations — "If the State did not create conditions to prevent armed groups from harming defenseless people, then it must provide reparations" — maintains psychologist and psychotherapist Carmen Wurst.
