The dogma and megalomania characteristic of Abimael Guzmán are visible even in his love letters. In the missive he dedicates in 1995 to his first wife, Augusta la Torre, or comrade Norah, who died in 1988, one reads: "The comrades, even foreign ones, do not and will not forget your simple and illuminating words: As a red soldier of the Party I promise not to take a single step without the personal leadership of Presidente Gonzalo, guarantee of victory."
