Salomón Lerner Febres: "Pardoning Fujimori Would Be Immoral and Unacceptable"
Having led the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR) made him — and continues to make him — the target of harsh criticism. Today he takes comfort in the fact that Mario Vargas Llosa included him in the commission tasked with bringing the museum of memory to life, and that the tribunal that convicted Fujimori for crimes against humanity gave evidentiary weight to the CVR report. For Lerner, the governments of Belaúnde and García entrusted the counter-insurgency struggle to the Armed Forces, stood aside, and therefore bear ethical and political responsibility. But Fujimori personally directed that struggle, and from that derives his criminal responsibility. Published on April 12, 2009.
