"We don't need museums or nonsense to refresh our memory," said Cecilia Chacón — a congresswoman whose most notable identifying mark is being the daughter of a Fujimorista general imprisoned for corruption — after President García, her ally in this as in other murky matters, rejected the German government's donation for the construction of a museum that would preserve — so it may never happen again — the memory of the political violence that tore our country apart, affecting above all the weakest and most historically marginalized populations: Quechua and Asháninka peoples, the illiterate, women, children, and adolescents, whose lives were destroyed without them even understanding the reason.
