German Government Defends the Museum of Memory Project
The German government rejected the claims of a sector of the Apra party that sought to discredit the construction of a Museum of Memory to honor the victims of political violence, and stated that the money offered as a donation would be exclusively for the building's construction and maintenance. In a communiqué, the German embassy made clear that — prior to the official rejection by President García's government — "650,000 euros had been planned exclusively for the construction of the Museum of Memory and an information center."
