Argentine Dictatorship

When we remember the military dictatorship we lived through in Argentina, we think of the disappeared, the economic boom ("plata dulce"), the Falklands War, etc. What many people do not know is that these events, and many others, were pieces of a macabre puzzle designed to reform — or reorganize — Argentina, to turn it back into an agro-exporting country with political participation restricted to an elite. The events highlighted above are the results of the measures taken to transform this highly mobilized country with broadly distributed income into a raw-material-producing farm with concentrated wealth.
