Memory of Horror. Testimonies of Women Affected by Violence

"Everything I answered was the truth, but those men insulted me, saying words no one had ever said to me in my life. They grabbed me by the hair and smashed my head against the wall as if my head were a ball. They slapped me in the face. I felt them paint my mouth with a lipstick. They tore off my clothes by force until I was completely naked. I could hear them laughing and applauding as if they were at a circus, and they kissed me by force, saying words I am ashamed to repeat. Then they injected something into my arm, and from that moment on I felt dizzy. Then they sexually abused me, and despite the injection I felt terrible pain. To keep me from screaming they covered my mouth with a rag, and in that way they took from me what I had guarded so carefully: my virginity. They did not regard me as a human being but as a sexual object." This work gathers testimonies from women who were victims of sexual violence during the Peruvian armed conflict.
