And What Happened to the Women? Gender and Reparations for Human Rights Violations

This case study book, under the intellectual leadership of the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) and with the support of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), sheds light on questions that have until now been poorly understood and little investigated: Can governments of new democracies, or those currently being reformed, expect to repair the specific forms of gender-based harm suffered by their populations during periods of political violence and repression? Can such reparation be achieved by integrating gender concerns into the conceptualization of state-promoted mass reparation schemes?
