Access to Justice for Women Victims of Violence in the Americas
Women who are victims of violence do not achieve prompt, timely, and effective access to judicial remedies when they report the events they have suffered. For this reason, the vast majority of these incidents remain unpunished and consequently their rights are left unprotected. For this reason, this report on the situation of women victims of violence has been prepared, presenting a diagnosis of the main obstacles that women face when seeking effective judicial protection to remedy acts of violence. This presentation sets out conclusions and recommendations for States to act with due diligence in order to offer an effective and timely judicial response to these incidents. The analysis in this report includes the results of an information-gathering process from a variety of sectors including the justice administration, government officials and representatives, civil society, the academic sector, and women of different races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic conditions, carried out by the Rapporteurship over the past two years.
