Bambamarca. Daily life and public safety

This text summarizes various aspects related to cities in the interior of the country, whose everyday life unfolds closely tied to their rural surroundings. As a rule, the study of urban problems does not take small cities into account, even though they play a decisive role in social life. Such is the case of Bambamarca, a small city located in the highlands of Cajamarca. This city and its actors are protagonists of a singular experience in matters of social control involving the peasant patrols—ronderos—organizations that to this day have managed to maintain peace and security for citizens in both the urban and rural areas.
