The rebellion of memory
The texts of Salomón Lerner Febres, carefully selected by the Centro de Estudios y Publicaciones, are pieces of philosophical depth but were also a call to attention for Peruvians regardless of their social or economic standing — a discreet yet firm call for the defense of life and human rights.
For the human rights movement, the speeches presented here represent historic, moving moments: they are the acknowledgments of victims during the public hearings, which later became a starting point for generating new organizations that are gradually gaining public presence. These are images that have remained imprinted in our memory: women who, pausing in their histories of pain, courageously dared to denounce the atrocities committed during the internal war; young volunteers who, traveling throughout the country and learning from a difficult experience, despite their youth persevered and committed themselves even more earnestly to the defense of human rights.
