RETABLO. DREAM OF THE HUAMANGUINA WOMAN DURING EIGHT YEARS OF VIOLENCE

Dream of the Huamanga Woman in the Eight Years of Violence. Year: 1988. Dimensions: Open: 36 x 39 x 8.5 cm / Closed: 36 x 19 x 8.5 cm. Both the interior of the lids of this retablo and the semicircular crown are in mourning. The color black reflects the state of the population in a context of violence and the loss of loved ones. The white flowers, which contrast sharply with the black background, represent the hope that does not fade, even under these circumstances. Red borders frame these images. Inside a mountain, a woman lies sleeping in a pool of blood, embracing her children while she dreams, protected by the mountain (apu or wamani) that offers her protection. In her dream, the Huamanga woman weaves together the tragic events of reality with her hopes. The harsh reality is that her husband, detained during a military roundup, was imprisoned, killed, and finally thrown into a pit where hungry animals devour his body. In the dream, however, the eternal father takes pity and sends an angel to collect the victim, who is then led to heaven, where she will rest in peace.
