Victims of the Shining Path assault on the Huamanga city prison.

On March 2, 1982, a group of approximately 30 Sendero members attacked the prison facility in the city of Huamanga (CRAS Santiago Apóstol), killed two civil guards, and allowed 247 inmates to escape, including common criminals and those charged with the crime of terrorism. The following day, Guardia Civil officers extrajudicially executed three wounded prisoners who were recovering in the Huamanga hospital.
