In September 1985. On September 14, 1985, President Alan García appointed a "Peace Commission" whose mission was to examine the legal status of those detained for subversion who declared themselves innocent, through dialogue with them. García sought to establish channels of dialogue to persuade the Sendero members to abandon the path they had taken.
