PCP-SL causes 23 police casualties, kills 14 authorities and dozens more victims in Puno
Between January and July 1989, the PCP-SL caused 23 casualties in the police forces and assassinated 14 authorities in the department of Puno. At least a couple of dozen more unacknowledged victims die for stealing in the name of the party, cattle rustling, snitching or desertion. Their bodies are dumped on busy roads as symbols of the defiant power that the PCP-SL is building in Puno.
