VIII and IX Plenary Sessions of the Central Committee of UNIR

UNIR approves war preparedness in its plenary sessions generating internal divisions

In 1989, the UNIR experienced the conflict between radicals and electoralists in its VIII and IX Plenary Sessions of its Central Committee. Under the name of the great turnaround, the resolution was approved to prepare the party for war (prepare the party and the people for the revolution was the public slogan). However, according to leaders, neither the Party, nor its leadership, nor its militancy were prepared ideologically, politically, organizationally and materially to put it into practice. This generated fractions that sympathized with the armed struggle, promoting splits and new adhesions to the subversive groups.
