In January 1989, the Farfán Gonzáles family was murdered in Huamanga. This event occurred during a period of intense violence in the city, when both paramilitary groups linked to intelligence services and the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out selective assassinations. The event took place in the context of the intensification of the internal armed conflict between 1988 and 1991, years that coincided with the second offensive of the PCP-SL after declaring the "strategic balance" in its first congress.
