First PCP-SL incursion in Iparia

In mid-1989, PCP-SL made one of its first incursions into the town of Iparia, Coronel Portillo province, as part of its expansion from Padre Abad to the Ucayali River. The operation faced logistical limitations due to the distance and the risk of attacks by the Navy.

PCP-SL made one of its first incursions into the town of Iparia in mid-1989, as part of its expansion into the province of Coronel Portillo after consolidating in Padre Abad. The Main Force of the Upper Huallaga Regional Committee faced limitations in operating in this area due to the long river routes that exposed them to attacks by the Navy. The geographical inaccessibility of Iparia served as a defense against possible massive attacks by the armed forces. This incursion was part of PCP-SL's strategy to expand along the Ucayali River towards the districts of Masisea and Iparia.
