Murder of family and nun in La Florida

In 1989, the PCP-SL murdered an entire family along with a nun from the Good Shepherd congregation in La Florida, Chanchamayo. This was one of the best known cases of the multiple selective murders committed by the subversive group in the area.

In 1989, the PCP-SL made incursions into several native communities and peasant annexes in the province of Chanchamayo, carrying out "popular trials" and assassinating authorities and inhabitants. One of the best known cases was that of La Florida, where they murdered an entire family along with a nun from the Good Shepherd congregation. This occurred in the context of the strong presence of the PCP-SL and MRTA in Chanchamayo, a strategic area that is the gateway to the Amazon region from the central highlands. The local inhabitants distinguished between the two subversive groups by calling them by color: "blacks" for the MRTA and "reds" for the PCP-SL.
