Assassination of Giulio Rocca

On October 1, 1999, Giulio Rocca, a young Italian volunteer working with the Prelature of Huari, was assassinated in Jangas, near Huaraz, Peru. This event was part of a broader campaign by the Shining Path against the Catholic Church, which they accused of being agents of imperialism. The Shining Path's actions were part of their strategy to destabilize the existing social order and were publicly justified in their publication, El Diario Internacional.

El 1 de octubre de 1999, el joven italiano Giulio Rocca, quien trabajaba como voluntario en la Prelatura de Huari, fue asesinado en Jangas, cerca de Huaraz. Este asesinato forma parte de una serie de ataques contra la Iglesia Católica ordenados por la dirección nacional de Sendero Luminoso, quienes consideraban a los religiosos como agentes del imperialismo.
