In 1989, the PCP-SL executed four people in Nunumia, Cajatambo, after a "popular trial": the president and secretary of the Cochas community, a teacher and an evangelical community member.

In 1989, the PCP-SL carried out a 'popular trial' in the community of Nunumia, Cajatambo province, which resulted in the assassination of four people. The victims were Marcelino Mendoza Davila, President of the Cochas community; Agustin Chavarria Rojas, secretary of the same community; Professor Raul Chavarria Rosales; and Antonio Vega Busish, an evangelical community member. This event was part of the Shining Path's strategy of attacking resistant authorities, unsympathetic teachers and members of religious communities who did not support their cause. The action was part of a broader offensive by the PCP-SL in the Cajatambo region during that year.
