Murders in Rajan
Between 1989 and 1991, the PCP-SL assassinated multiple authorities and community members in Raján, Ocros, including mayor Abraham Castillo and community vice president Rosario Rojas, as part of its strategy to eliminate local leaders.
In 1989, the PCP-SL assassinated several people in Raján, Ocros, including Rosario Rojas (Vice President of the Community), Abraham Castillo (Mayor), Martín Rojas, Samuray Rojas and Hitler Rojas. The latter three were apparently killed for asking for quotas on behalf of the PCP-SL. The violence continued in 1991 when Eva Higinio and Benito Calisto were murdered in the same locality. These murders were part of the PCP-SL's strategy to eliminate local authorities and create a power vacuum in the area.
