Organization of counter-subversive peasant patrols

In late 1989 and early 1990, the Peruvian Army promoted the organization of villagers into counter-subversive peasant patrols in Pasco as a strategy to combat the PCP-Sendero Luminoso.

At the end of 1989 and beginning of 1990, the Army promoted the organization of villagers in counter-subversive peasant patrols in the department of Pasco. This strategy sought to counteract the presence of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso by mobilizing the organized civilian population. The peasant patrols joined the expanded military presence and the frequent raids in the city of Cerro de Pasco. The organization of these patrols was part of the counter-subversive response of the State that had begun with the deployment of military bases since 1985.
