Destruction of electric locomotives

On December 31, 1988, Shining Path destroyed three diesel electric locomotives belonging to Centromín Perú that were transporting ore from the Cerro de Pasco unit to the La Oroya smelter. This attack was part of a series of terrorist actions against mining infrastructure in the central region of Peru. The attack occurred in the context of an escalation of violence against Centromín Perú's facilities during the last months of 1988. This type of sabotage seriously affected mining operations and mineral transportation in the area.
