Massacre in the community of Cuatro Esquinas, Santo Tomás
Shining Path tortured and killed 7 people at Cuatro Esquinas
A group of hooded and armed hikers arrived in the community of Picutane. They gathered several villagers, locked them in a house and subjected them to torture. Then they selected some of the abductees, among them the community president, the lieutenant governor and a leader of the ronderos, and took them to the town square of Cuatro Esquinas. After accusing them of being abigeos, they beat them and took them to a nearby ravine where they continued torturing them. Some were freed, but seven were stabbed to death and buried in graves.
