On December 6, 1988, a PCP-SL commando, acting under the name of the Revolutionary Workers Movement (MOR), assassinated AP Navy Captain Juan Vega Llona, who was serving as naval attaché of the Peruvian embassy in Bolivia. Vega Llona was an expert in anti-subversive struggle and was stationed in the emergency zone of Ayacucho in 1984. He was also involved in the events that took place in the prisons in June 1986, which probably made him a target of the PCP-SL.
